Barbara’s Patient Story: Single-Tooth Implant Treatment

Barbara shares her experience of having single-tooth implant treatment at The Implant Centre, and how replacing a collapsed tooth with an implant was a simple and wonderful experience.

My dentist Ian Bell (based in Uckfield) recommended that I see Bill Schaeffer at The Implant Centre, because he'd seen his work and thought it was very good. And I needed to have an implant.
A few years ago, I had a jaw problem on the right-hand side and had to have a disc put in there, so eating on the left-hand side became very important. And so, when my tooth collapsed, I needed something permanent done. I was slightly apprehensive because you're walking into the unknown. But, as soon as I arrived here (The Implant Centre), Bill met me and I had another lot of X-rays done, and I just felt fine about it. He explained absolutely everything as we went along.
So no, I wasn't at all worried about it, I really wasn't. People keep saying that to me, and friends say, “Wasn't that awful?” No, it wasn't. You know, you can't explain to somebody that it just wasn't, it wasn't as bad as you thought it was going to be.
I had a local anaesthetic; the procedure took hardly any time at all, and there was no pain. About a week later after having had it done, I was able to go on holiday and without any problems I ate anything that I wanted to. After I had the implant, I'm not quite sure, It must have been 2 to 3 months, I then had a crown fitted to it by my dentist and all was well with that too.
The Implant Centre staff were so kind and put me at ease immediately. The nurses, the receptionist, everyone that I dealt with. I found they were very caring. I would recommend The Implant Centre to friends and family. I have done this on several occasions when people have told me they need to have an implant.
