With a 25-year career and around 10,000 patients treated, Richard is a highly experienced orthodontist passionate about creating healthy, confident smiles. He qualified from Guy’s Hospital with double honours in 1990, later gaining his Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 1994. Pursuing his passion for orthodontics, he went on to earn an MSc from the University of London and his Membership in Orthodontics (M.Orth RCS), becoming a General Dental Council–registered specialist in both Orthodontics and Oral Surgery.
Richard has held senior clinical and leadership roles, including partner, director, and Chairman of the Total Orthodontics Group. Nationally, he is the past Chair of the Orthodontic Specialists’ Group of the British Orthodontic Society (2020–2024), former Director of Professional Development (2015–2018), and former Director of Clinical Practice (2006–2013). In these capacities, he led the organisation of the national conference, coordinated the Society’s professional development meetings, and worked closely with the Department of Health, NHS England, the British Dental Association, and the Chief Dental Officer.
Richard has broad experience with fixed braces, clear aligners, and lingual braces, and regularly lectures in the UK and abroad on clinical, business, and political topics. Locally, he has served as Co-Chair of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Orthodontic Managed Clinical Network, and he advises on orthodontic innovation as a member of the European advisory board for Invisalign and the Dental Advisory Committee for BUPA Dentalcare. He is also a member of the British Orthodontic Society, the British Dental Association, and the European Aligner Society.
Away from the clinic, Richard enjoys skiing, rugby, and time with his wife and young sons in Sussex.
